Commonly Asked Questions

Are there any age limits to rent from you?

We try to do business with customers who are 25 years and older due to our insurance coverage restrictions. On the other hand, based upon your situation, whenever possible, we always strive to be flexible.

If you are younger than 25 years, try contacting your insurance provider to find out whether you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.

Are your roof top tent campers kids friendly?

Yes! Please keep in mind that using our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb up a small ladder. If this sounds like an issue, we also offer an additional camping tent with each of our packages which you can easily set up on the ground beside the camping vehicle. This can be much more comfortable for both you and your children.

What is the max. capacity of your vehicles?

Our camping vehicles fit 3 individuals at most, although in case there are more within your group, we do offer an extra tent, too. With this, we can easily fit up to 5 individuals. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.

Do you provide surfboards?

Absolutely yes, we provide surfboards and boogie boards and also fins upon request for a fee. Just inform us in advance if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we receive a guide or a map with the nicest beaches and hiking trails to visit on Kauai?

Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to check out and go camping on Kauai.

Greatest Locations For Camping Outdoors On Kauai & Details About Camping Permits

Can I go to any beach front to camp?

You could drive up to any beach, but you can only set up your camp in official camping sites. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We’ll supply you with a list of the ideal locations to visit and to go camping. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.

Are we allowed to camp in the wild or can we just go to official camping grounds? If so, how much is the fee?

No, wild camping isn’t permitted on the island of Kauai. You should only camp in official areas with a valid camping permit. The fee is approximately $3 per night stay in most Kauai county parks, though private camp sites could be a bit more. The good thing about these camping grounds is that you will have full access to amenities, including showers, restrooms & picnic tables. Please note that if you choose to camp on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?

It’s a good idea to get your Kauai camping license before your arrival. For the majority of private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits online and also in person in the designated office.

If you choose to stay at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you can ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.

In advance, the fees are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are money orders and cashier’s checks. However, you don’t have to book your camping licenses prior to your planned arrival. You could also obtain them at the different permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.

What is the processing time for getting camping permits?

If you decide to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to stay at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite some time to get your permits. Permits can be obtained at the permit offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are given right away.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
