Commonly Asked Questions
What is the minimum age to rent from you?
We prefer to work with clients who are 25 years and above because of our insurance policy restrictions. But, depending on your needs, whenever possible, we always try to be flexible.
In case you are below 25 years, consider contacting your insurance provider to determine if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.
Are your rooftop tents family friendly?
Indeed! Please keep in mind that with our rooftop camping vehicles you’ll have to climb up a little ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we also provide an additional tent with each of our packages which you can set up on the ground. This could be much more comfortable for you and your young ones.
How many people can your camping vehicles fit?
We could fit three individuals at most, though if there are more in your group, we do provide an additional tent, as well. With this, we are able to accommodate as much as 5 people. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.
Are you able to provide surfboards?
Absolutely yes, we offer surfboards & boogie boards and also fins upon request for a fee. Simply let us know in advance if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we receive a travel guide or even a map with the greatest hiking trails and beaches to explore on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to see & camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I visit any beach to camp?
You could drive up to any beach, but you should only set up your camp in designated camping grounds. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We will provide you with a list of the greatest locations to check out and also to camp in. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.
Are we allowed to camp in the wild or are we just able to visit designated camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t permitted on the island of Kauai. You may only go camping in official areas with secured camping permits. The charge is about $3 per night in most Kauai county campgrounds, but private campsites could be a bit more. One particular advantage of these campgrounds is that you have complete access to facilities, such as showers, bathrooms & picnic tables. Please note that if you choose to go camping on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It is a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping license before your journey. For the majority of private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your permits on the internet and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you opt to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you may ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
Non-residents must pay three dollars per night up-front. Payment methods accepted with this application are cashier’s checks as well as money orders. However, it isn’t absolutely necessary to book your camping licenses before your arrival. You could also get them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
What is the processing time for getting camping permits?
Whether you decide to camp at a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to go to a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite a while to get your permits. Permits can be bought at the license offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are issued on the spot.
