Commonly Asked Questions
Are there any age limits to rent from you?
We try to do business with customers who are 25 years and older due to our insurance coverage restrictions. On the other hand, depending on your circumstances, whenever we can, we always try to be accommodating.
In case you are below 25 years, try contacting your insurance provider to find out whether you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.
Are your roof top tent campers family friendly?
Absolutely! Please note that with our rooftop campers you would need to climb up a small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we provide an extra camping tent with each package which you may put up on the ground beside the camper vehicle. This could be more convenient for both you and also your children.
How many people can your camping trucks fit?
We can accommodate three people at most, though if there are more in your group, we do have an additional camping tent, as well. With this, we are able to fit up to five people. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Absolutely yes, we offer both surfboards & boogie boards and fins upon request for a small fee. Just tell us in advance if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we get a guide book or perhaps a map with the nicest areas to explore on Kauai?
Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to visit & go camping on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Information Regarding Camping Permits
Am I able to go to any beach to camp?
You could drive up to any beach, but you can only put up your camp in official camping grounds. This is the standard practice here on Kauai. We will provide you with a list of the best places to check out and also to go camping. Please remember that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.
Are we allowed to camp in the wild or are we only able to visit official camping grounds? If so, what is the charge?
No, wild camping isn’t allowed in Kauai. You should only camp in specified areas with a valid camping permit. The associated fee is approximately $3 per night in most Kauai county campgrounds, though private camping grounds may be a little more. One advantage of these campsites is that you have full access to facilities, like showers, bathrooms & picnic dining tables. Please note that if you opt to go camping on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.
What campgrounds do you recommend with the rooftop camping tent?
- Kōkeʻe State Park (need camping permit): Kokee Rd, Hwy 550, Kekaha, HI 96752

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It’s a better to get your Kauai camping license prior to your arrival. For the majority of private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits on the internet and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you opt to camp at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you can obtain permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
In advance, the charges are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are money orders & cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, you don’t have to book your camping permits before your planned arrival. You could also obtain them at the different permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.
How much time does it take to obtain the camping permits?
Whether you decide to camp at a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to stay at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite a while to obtain your permits. You might obtain your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the designated permit offices on the island; in-person you will get them right away.

Our Happy Clients!
Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.
Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.
We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
The BEST way to experience the beautiful garden island! Not only a great service–transportation doubling as your lodging–but wonderful and warm hosts. Jonathan and Jamie were so kind and helpful. An absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai–thank you both!
