Commonly Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We prefer to do business with clients who are actually 25 years and above because of our insurance policy restrictions. However, based on your situation, whenever possible, we always try to be accommodating.
In case you are younger than twenty-five, consider checking with your insurance company to see if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.
Are your roof top tents kids friendly?
Absolutely! Please note that with our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb a small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we provide an additional tent with each of our packages which you can easily put up on the ground. This can be much more comfortable for you and your children.
How many individuals can your camping vehicles fit?
We could accommodate 3 people at most, though if there are more within your group, we do have an additional tent, too. With this, we can easily allow for up to 5 individuals. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Certainly, we offer both surfboards & boogie boards and also fins on request for a small fee. Simply inform us beforehand if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we get a guide or perhaps a map with the nicest places to visit on Kauai?
Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to check out and camp out on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to visit any beach for camping?
You can drive up to any beach, but you can only put up your camp in official camping sites. This is the standard practice here on Kauai. We’ll provide you with a list of the top places to check out and to camp in. Please be aware that driving on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or can we only go to official camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t allowed on the island of Kauai. You should only camp in designated locations with secured camping permits. The charge is around $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, but private campgrounds may be a little more. The good thing about these campsites is that you have complete access to amenities, including washrooms, showers and picnic tables. Please keep in mind that if you opt to camp on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to set up the ground tent.
What campsites do you suggest with the rooftop camping tent?

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It is a better to get your Kauai camping permits before your arrival. For the majority of private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your permits on the internet and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you opt to stay at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you may request permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
Up-front, the fees are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. But you don’t have to reserve your camping licenses prior to your arrival. You could also get them at the different permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.
How much time will it take to get the camping permits?
No matter if you decide to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to go to a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite a while to obtain your permits. Permits can be obtained at the license offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are given immediately.
