FAQs

Is there an age requirement to rent from you?

We would rather like to work with clients who are actually twenty-five years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. Having said that, based upon your situation, whenever we can, we strive to be accommodating.

If you are younger than twenty-five, consider checking with your insurance provider to determine if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.

Are your roof top tents family friendly?

Of course! Please keep in mind that using our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb up a little ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we offer an extra tent with every package which you can easily set up on the ground next to the camper truck. This can be more convenient for both you and your young children.

What is the maximum capacity of your camping trucks?

The roof top tent camping trucks fit 3 individuals maximum, although if there are more in your party, we do provide an additional tent, as well. With this, we can easily allow for as much as 5 people. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.

What about surfboards?

Certainly, we offer both surfboards & boogie boards as well as fins on request for a fee. Just tell us beforehand if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we receive a guide or a map with the greatest places to check out on Kauai?

Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to check out & camp out on Kauai.

Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ

Am I able to visit any beach to camp?

You could drive up to any beach, however, you should only set up your camp in designated camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the usual procedure. We’ll supply you with a list of the top locations to check out and to go camping. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” permitted or are we just able to go to official camping grounds? If so, how much will it cost?

No, wild camping isn’t allowed on the island of Kauai. You may only camp in specific areas with a valid camping permit. The charge is about $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, but private camp sites may be a bit more. The good thing about these campsites is that you have full access to amenities, including showers, washrooms and picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you opt to camp on the county campsites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Prior to our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?

It’s a better to obtain your Kauai camping permits prior to your arrival. For the majority of private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your permits on the internet and also in person in the respective office.

If you opt to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you can ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.

Up-front, the costs are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are money orders & cashier’s checks. However, you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping licenses before your arrival. You can also get them at the various permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.

How much time will it take to obtain the camping permits?

If you decide to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to camp at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite a while to get your permits. Permits can be bought at the permit offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are issued on-the-spot.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
