Below are Some Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any age limits to rent from you?

We would rather like to do business with customers who are actually 25 years and older because of our insurance coverage restrictions. However, based upon your circumstances, whenever possible, we try to be accommodating.

If you are younger than 25 years, try checking with your insurance provider to see if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.

Could you accommodate families who have children?

Absolutely! Please note that using our rooftop camping vehicles you’ll have to climb a small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we provide an extra tent with each package which you could set up on the ground. This may be much more comfortable for you and your children.

What is the maximum capacity of your camper vehicles?

We can fit three people maximum, although if there are more within your group, we do provide an additional tent, too. With this, we can easily accommodate up to 5 individuals. All of our trucks have 5 seatbelts.

Are you able to provide surfboards?

Yes, our company offers both surfboards & boogie boards as well as fins on request for a small fee. Simply tell us up-front if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we get a guide or a map with the greatest hiking trails & beaches to check out on Kauai?

Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to visit and camp out on Kauai.

Finest Places For Camping Out On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ

Can I go to any beach front to camp?

You could drive up to any beach, however, you can only set up your camp in designated camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the usual procedure. We will provide you with a list of the ideal locations to explore and to camp in. Please note that driving on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” permitted or are we only able to visit official camping grounds? If so, how much will it cost?

No, wild camping is not permitted on the island of Kauai. You should only camp in specific areas with secured camping permits. The charge is roughly $3 per night in most Kauai county campgrounds, though private campsites may be a bit more. One advantage of these campgrounds is that you will have full access to amenities, including showers, washrooms and picnic tables. Please keep in mind that if you choose to go camping on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?

It is a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping license before your journey. For most private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your permits online and also in person in the designated office.

If you opt to camp at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you can request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.

Up-front, the costs are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are cashier’s checks as well as money orders. But it isn’t necessary to reserve your camping licenses prior to your planned arrival. You can also get them at the designated permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.

What is the processing time for getting camping permits?

Whether you choose to stay at a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to go to a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite a while to get your permits. You might choose to receive your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on the island; in-person you will get them immediately.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
