Commonly Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We try to work with clients who are 25 years and older because of our insurance policy restrictions. Having said that, depending on your situation, whenever we can, we always try to be flexible.
If you are younger than 25 years, consider contacting your insurance company to determine if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.
Can you accommodate adults with kids?
Absolutely! Please note that using our rooftop camping vehicles you will need to climb a small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we also provide an extra camping tent with each package which you could set up on the ground next to the camper truck. This can be much more comfortable for you and your young ones.
How many individuals can your camping trucks fit?
We can accommodate three individuals maximum, although if there are more within your group, we do provide an extra tent, too. With this, we can easily allow for as much as 5 individuals. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.
Do you have surfboards?
Absolutely yes, we offer surfboards and boogie boards and also fins upon request for a small fee. Simply tell us up-front if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we get a guide book or even a map with the greatest hiking trails & beaches to explore on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to check out and camp out on Kauai.
Best Spots For Camping On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I visit any beach front to camp?
You could drive up to any beach, however, you can only put up your camp in designated camping grounds. This is the standard practice here on Kauai. We will supply you with a list of the best locations to explore and to camp in. Please be aware that driving on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or are we just able to visit designated camping sites? If so, how much is the fee?
No, wild camping is not allowed in Kauai. You can only go camping in official locations with a current camping permit. The fee is roughly $3 per night in many Kauai county parks, but private camping grounds could be a bit more. One particular advantage of these camping grounds is that you have total access to amenities, like washrooms, showers and picnic tables. Please keep in mind that if you choose to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.
Can you suggest any Kauai camping sites where we can set up the roof top tent?

Prior to our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is definitely a better to obtain your Kauai camping license before your trip. For the majority of private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you may secure your permits online and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you decide to stay at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you can ask for permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
In advance, the fees are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are cashier’s checks and money orders. However, you don’t necessarily have to book your camping licenses prior to your arrival. You could also get them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
What is the processing time for obtaining camping permits?
If you decide to go to a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to go to a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite some time to get your permits. Permits can be bought at the permit offices on Kauai upon arrival; in-person permits are issued immediately.

Our Happy Clients!
Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.
Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time
Los Angeles, CA
Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.
We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
The BEST way to experience the beautiful garden island! Not only a great service–transportation doubling as your lodging–but wonderful and warm hosts. Jonathan and Jamie were so kind and helpful. An absolutely wonderful trip to Kauai–thank you both!
