Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any age limits to rent from you?

We would rather like to work with customers who are twenty-five years and above due to our insurance policy restrictions. Having said that, based on your circumstances, whenever we can, we try to be accommodating.

If you are below 25 years, try contacting your insurer to see if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can contact us.

Are your roof top tent camping vehicles kids friendly?

Absolutely! Please note that using our rooftop camping vehicles you will need to climb up a little ladder. If this is a problem, we also offer an extra camping tent with every package which you could put up on the ground beside your camper vehicle. This could be more comfortable for both you and your children.

What is the max. capacity of your trucks?

The camper trucks fit three people at most, although in case there are more within your group, we do have an additional camping tent, too. With this, we can easily accommodate up to five people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.

What about surfboards?

Yes, our company offers both surfboards & boogie boards and also fins on request for a small fee. Just inform us up-front if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.

Do we get a guide or a map with the best beaches and hiking trails to explore on Kauai?

Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to see & camp out on Kauai.

Perfect Locations For Camping Outdoors On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ

Can I go to any beach front to camp?

You may drive up to any beach, nevertheless, you should only put up your camp in designated camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard practice. We’ll provide you with a list of the ideal locations to check out and to camp in. Please be aware that driving on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.

Are we allowed to camp in the wild or can we just go to official camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?

No, wild camping is not permitted in Kauai. You should only go camping in official areas with secured camping permits. The fee is about $3 per night stay in many Kauai county campgrounds, though private campgrounds may be a bit more. One particular advantage of these campsites is that you have total access to amenities, like showers, washrooms and picnic dining tables. Please remember that if you choose to go camping on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?

It is a good idea to get your Kauai camping permits before your arrival. For most private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may secure your permits on the internet and also on-the-spot in the designated office.

If you choose to stay at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you can obtain permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.

Up-front, the charges are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this particular application are money orders & cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping permits prior to your planned arrival. You can also obtain them at the different permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.

What is the processing time for obtaining camping permits?

No matter whether you decide to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to stay at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite some time to obtain your permits. You might get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the various permit offices on the island; in-person you will receive them immediately.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
