FAQs
What is the minimum age to rent from you?
We would rather like to work with customers who are actually 25 years and older due to our insurance policy restrictions. On the other hand, depending on your circumstances, whenever possible, we strive to be accommodating.
In case you are younger than 25 years, consider contacting your insurance company to find out whether you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.
Are your roof top tents family friendly?
Certainly! Please keep in mind that using our rooftop campers you will need to climb up one small ladder. If this is a problem, we also provide an additional tent with each package which you can easily set up on the ground. This can be much more comfortable for you and your young children.
What is the maximum capacity of your camper trucks?
We could fit three individuals at most, although in case there are more in your group, we do provide an extra camping tent, as well. With this, we are able to allow for up to 5 people. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.
Do you provide surfboards?
Yes, we provide both surfboards and boogie boards and also fins on request for a fee. Just tell us beforehand if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Can we receive a travel guide or perhaps a map with the nicest locations to check out on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to see and go camping on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I go to any beach to camp?
You can go to any beach, but you should only set up your camp in official camping grounds. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We’ll supply you with a list of the top locations to visit and also to camp in. Please remember that driving on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Are we permitted to camp in the wild or can we only visit designated camping grounds? If so, what is the charge?
No, wild camping is not allowed in Kauai. You should only camp in official locations with a valid camping permit. The fee is about $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county parks, though private camp sites may be a bit more. One advantage of these campsites is that you have full access to amenities, including washrooms, showers and picnic tables. Please be aware that if you choose to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?
It’s a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping permits before your journey. For most private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your permits on the internet and also on-the-spot in the respective office.
If you opt to camp at a county campground and use a ground tent, you can request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.
Up-front, the charges are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are cashier’s checks and money orders. However, you don’t necessarily have to reserve your camping permits prior to your arrival. You can also obtain them at the designated permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.
How much time will it take to get the camping permits?
If you choose to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to camp at a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite some time to receive your permits. You might receive your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the various permit offices on the island; in-person you will get them on the spot.
