Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any age restrictions to rent from you?
We try to work with clients who are twenty-five years and older due to our insurance policy restrictions. Having said that, depending on your situation, whenever we can, we strive to be accommodating.
In case you are below 25 years, try checking in with your insurance provider to see if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.
Are your rooftop tents family friendly?
Yes! Please note that using our rooftop campers you would need to climb a little ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we provide an extra camping tent with each of our packages which you may put up on the ground. This may be much more comfortable for you and your young children.
What is the maximum capacity of your trucks?
The camping vehicles sleep 3 people at most, although if there are more in your group, we do offer an additional tent, as well. With this, we can easily accommodate as much as five people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
What about surfboards?
Absolutely yes, we offer both surfboards and boogie boards and fins upon request for a small fee. Just tell us up-front if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we receive a travel guide or a map with the nicest beaches and hiking trails to check out on Kauai?
Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to check out & go camping on Kauai.
Ideal Places For Camping Outdoors On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I head to any beach for camping?
You could drive up to any beach, however, you should only set up your camp in official camping grounds. This is the standard practice here on Kauai. We will supply you with a list of the ideal locations to check out and also to go camping. Please be aware that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not allowed on Kauai.
Is “wild camping” allowed or can we only visit official camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping is not allowed on the island of Kauai. You may only go camping in specific locations with secured camping permits. The charge is about $3 per night stay in most Kauai county campgrounds, though private campsites may be a bit more. One particular advantage of these camping grounds is that you will have complete access to facilities, including bathrooms, showers & picnic kitchen tables. Please keep in mind that if you choose to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is a better to obtain your Kauai camping permits prior to your journey. For the majority of private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you can get your permits online and also in person in the respective office.
If you choose to stay at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you can request permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.
In advance, the charges are $3 per night for nonresidents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are money orders and cashier’s checks. But it is not absolutely necessary to book your camping licenses prior to your arrival. You could also obtain them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
What is the processing time for obtaining camping permits?
No matter whether you choose to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to camp at a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite some time to obtain your permits. Permits can be obtained at the license offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are given on-the-spot.
