We try to do business with clients who are actually twenty-five years and older due to our insurance policy restrictions. On the other hand, depending on your situation, whenever we can, we always strive to be flexible.

If you are below 25 years, try checking with your insurer to see if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.

Are your roof top tent campers family friendly?

Absolutely! Please note that with our rooftop campers you will need to climb one small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we also offer an extra camping tent with every package which you can set up on the ground. This could be more comfortable for both you and also your young children.

How many people can your camper trucks fit?

The camping trucks sleep 3 people maximum, though if there are more in your group, we do provide an additional tent, as well. With this, we can easily accommodate up to five individuals. Each of our vehicles has 5 seatbelts.

Do you have surfboards?

Certainly, Kauai Rooftop Campers offers surfboards & boogie boards and fins upon request for a small fee. Just tell us up-front if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Am I able to visit any beach for camping?

You may drive up to any beach, however, you should only put up your camp in designated camping grounds. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We’ll supply you with a list of the ideal locations to explore and also to camp in. Please be aware that driving on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” allowed or can we only go to official camping grounds? If so, what is the fee?

No, wild camping is not allowed in Kauai. You may only go camping in official locations with secured camping permits. The fee is approximately $3 per night in the majority of Kauai county campgrounds, but private campgrounds may be a bit more. The good thing about these camping grounds is that you have complete access to facilities, like showers, bathrooms & picnic dining tables. Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?

It is definitely a better to obtain your Kauai camping permits before your arrival. For most private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your permits on the internet and also in person in the designated office.

If you choose to camp at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you can request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.

Non-residents must pay three dollars per night in advance. Payment methods accepted with this particular application are money orders and cashier’s checks.
