Below are Some Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We prefer to do business with clients who are actually 25 years and older due to our insurance policy restrictions. However, based on your situation, whenever possible, we try to be flexible.
If you are younger than twenty-five, try checking with your insurance provider to find out if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Are your roof top tents kids friendly?
Absolutely! Please note that with our rooftop camping vehicles you’ll have to climb one small ladder. If this sounds like a concern, we also offer an extra camping tent with each package which you could set up on the ground. This may be more suitable for both you as well as your kids.
What is the max. capacity of your trucks?
We can fit 3 people at most, though in case there are more in your party, we do have an additional camping tent, as well. With this, we can easily allow for up to 5 individuals. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
Are you offering surfboards?
Certainly, Kauai Rooftop Campers offers both surfboards & boogie boards and fins upon request for a fee. Simply inform us up-front if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we receive a guidebook or a map with the nicest places to explore on Kauai?
Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best spots to visit and camp out on Kauai.
Greatest Locations For Camping On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Can I head to any beach front for camping?
You may go to any beach, nevertheless, you can only set up your camp in official camping grounds. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We’ll provide you with a list of the top places to check out and also to camp in. Please note that driving a vehicle on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Are we allowed to camp in the wild or can we only visit official camping sites? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t permitted in Kauai. You may only go camping in official areas with a current camping permit. The fee is roughly $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county campgrounds, though private campsites could be a little more. The good thing about these camping grounds is that you have complete access to amenities, like showers, bathrooms & picnic tables. Please be aware that if you choose to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to use the ground tent.

Do we have to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?
It is a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping permits prior to your trip. For the majority of private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your permits on the internet and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you opt to camp at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you may ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.
Non-residents must pay 3 dollars per night in advance. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. But you don’t have to reserve your camping permits prior to your arrival. You may also obtain them at the various permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.
How much time does it take to get the camping permits?
If you choose to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to go to a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite a while to get your permits. You might choose to obtain your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the various permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will receive them right away.
