Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any age limits to rent from you?

We try to work with clients who are actually 25 years and above because of our insurance policy restrictions. Having said that, based upon your situation, whenever possible, we always try to be flexible.

In case you are below twenty-five, try checking with your insurer to find out if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.

Are you able to accommodate families with kids?

Absolutely! Please note that using our rooftop camping vehicles you’ll have to climb a little ladder. If this is a problem, we also offer an additional tent with each package which you could put up on the ground. This may be more convenient for both you as well as your young ones.

What is the maximum capacity of your vehicles?

We could fit three people at most, though in case there are more in your party, we do offer an additional tent, too. With this, we can easily allow for as much as 5 people. All of our trucks have 5 seatbelts.

Are you able to provide surfboards?

Certainly, we provide both surfboards & boogie boards and fins upon request for a fee. Just tell us beforehand if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we get a guide book or perhaps a map with the best hiking trails and beaches to visit on Kauai?

Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to check out & go camping on Kauai.

Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ

Can I head to any beach front to camp?

You can go to any beach, however, you should only put up your camp in official camping grounds. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We’ll provide you with a list of the best locations to explore and also to camp in. Please be aware that driving on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” allowed or are we only able to go to designated camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?

No, wild camping is not allowed in Kauai. You can only go camping in designated locations with secured camping permits. The associated fee is approximately $3 per night in the majority of Kauai county parks, but private campsites may be a bit more. The good thing about these campgrounds is that you will have complete access to amenities, including washrooms, showers & picnic tables. Please be aware that if you decide to go camping on the county campgrounds, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Could you recommend any Kauai camping sites where we can set up the roof top tent?

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before our arrival in Kauai?

It is definitely a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping license before your arrival. For the majority of private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your permits online and also in person in the respective office.

If you opt to stay at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you may obtain permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.

Non-residents must pay three dollars per night in advance. Accepted payment methods with this application are bank checks as well as money orders. Nevertheless, it isn’t absolutely necessary to reserve your camping permits prior to your arrival. You may also get them at the various permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.

How long will it take to get the camping permits?

If you choose to stay at a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to camp at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite a while to obtain your permits. You might choose to get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the designated permit offices on the island; in-person you will receive them right away.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
