Here are Some Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any age restrictions to rent from you?

We prefer to work with customers who are twenty-five years and above because of our insurance coverage restrictions. Nevertheless, based upon your circumstances, whenever possible, we always try to be accommodating.

If you are below 25 years, consider contacting your insurance company to find out if you would be insured for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.

Are you able to accommodate families who have kids?

Of course! Please note that with our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb up one small ladder. If this is an issue, we provide an extra tent with all of our packages which you could put up on the ground. This may be more suitable for you as well as your little ones.

What is the max. capacity of your camper vehicles?

We could fit three individuals at most, although in case there are more in your party, we do offer an extra tent, too. With this, we are able to allow for about five people. All of our trucks have 5 seatbelts.

Are you offering surfboards?

Yes, our company offers surfboards and boogie boards as well as fins on request for a small fee. Simply let us know up-front if you would like to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Do we get a guide or perhaps a map with the nicest beaches & hiking trails to check out on Kauai?

Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to visit and go camping on Kauai.

Kauai Camping Guide & Specifics About Camping Permits

Can I visit any beach front to camp?

You could drive up to any beach, however, you should only put up your camp in official camping sites. This is the typical practice here on Kauai. We’ll give you a list of the best places to check out and also to camp in. Please remember that driving on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” allowed or are we just able to go to designated camping sites? If so, how much is the charge?

No, wild camping isn’t allowed in Kauai. You can only camp in specified locations with a valid camping permit. The fee is roughly $3 per night stay in many Kauai county parks, but private camping grounds could be a bit more. One advantage of these camping grounds is that you have full access to amenities, including showers, restrooms & picnic tables. Please keep in mind that if you choose to camp on the county campsites, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Where can I park and sleep with a roof top tent camper?

  • Kōkeʻe State Park (need camping permit): Kokee Rd, Hwy 550, Kekaha, HI 96752
  • Sugi Grove Campground (need camping permit): Access from MohihiCamp 10 Road, starting 100 yards past Kōkeʻe State Park headquarters along Highway 550. Latitude 22.13 N, Longitude -159.622 W.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?

It is a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping license before your arrival. For most private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits online and also in person in the respective office.

If you choose to stay at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you may ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.

Non-residents need to pay three dollars per night up-front. Payment methods accepted with this application are cashier’s checks as well as money orders. But you don’t have to book your camping licenses prior to your planned arrival. You could also obtain them at the different permit offices on the island, which is typically easier.

What is the processing time for obtaining camping permits?

If you choose to go to a state or private campground, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you choose to go to a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite some time to receive your permits. Permits can be bought at the license offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are issued right away.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
