Commonly Asked Questions
Is there an age requirement to rent from you?
We would rather like to do business with clients who are 25 years and above because of our insurance coverage restrictions. On the other hand, based upon your situation, whenever we can, we strive to be accommodating.
In case you are below 25 years, try checking with your insurance company to find out whether you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.
Are your roof top tents family friendly?
Certainly! Please note that with our rooftop camping vehicles you’ll have to climb one small ladder. If this sounds like a problem, we offer an additional tent with all of our packages which you could set up on the ground next to the camper vehicle. This can be more convenient for you and your kids.
What is the maximum capacity of your camping trucks?
The camping vehicles sleep 3 people at most, though in case there are more within your group, we do provide an extra tent, too. With this, we can easily allow for as much as 5 individuals. All of our trucks have 5 seatbelts.
Do you provide surfboards?
Certainly, our company offers both surfboards and boogie boards and also fins on request for a small fee. Just tell us in advance if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we get a guidebook or a map with the nicest hiking trails & beaches to visit on Kauai?
Yes, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to check out & go camping on Kauai.
Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to go to any beach front to camp?
You can go to any beach, nevertheless, you should only put up your camp in official camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard practice. We’ll supply you with a list of the ideal places to visit and to camp in. Please be aware that driving on the beaches isn’t allowed on Kauai.
Are we allowed to camp in the wild or can we only visit designated camping grounds? If so, how much is the fee?
No, wild camping is not permitted on the island of Kauai. You may only camp in specific locations with a valid camping permit. The charge is around $3 per night in most Kauai county campgrounds, though private camping grounds could be a bit more. The good thing about these camping grounds is that you have total access to amenities, like bathrooms, showers and picnic dining tables. Please be aware that if you opt to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only permitted to use the ground tent.

Do we need to get Kauai camping permits before we arrive in Kauai?
It is definitely a good idea to organize your Kauai camping permits before your journey. For most private camping grounds, which we always recommend first, you can secure your licenses on the internet and also on-the-spot in the designated office.
If you choose to stay at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you may obtain permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” page.
Non-residents have to pay three dollars per night up-front. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders & cashier’s checks. But you don’t necessarily have to book your camping licenses before your planned arrival. You can also obtain them at the designated permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.
How long does it take to get the camping permits?
If you choose to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. If you decide to stay at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it can take quite a while to receive your permits. Permits can be obtained at the license offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are issued on-the-spot.
