FAQs
Are there any age limits to rent from you?
We prefer to do business with customers who are twenty-five years and older due to our insurance coverage restrictions. Having said that, depending on your needs, whenever we can, we strive to be accommodating.
In case you are younger than 25 years, try checking in with your insurance company to find out whether you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, after which you can call us.
Are your rooftop tents family friendly?
Of course! Please keep in mind that using our rooftop camping vehicles you will need to climb one small ladder. If this is a concern, we also provide an extra tent with all of our packages which you can put up on the ground next to the camping truck. This could be much more comfortable for you and your children.
How many people can your camper vehicles accommodate?
We could fit 3 people maximum, though if there are more in your group, we do provide an extra tent, as well. With this, we are able to fit about 5 people. All of our vehicles have 5 seatbelts.
Are you able to provide surfboards?
Yes, we provide both surfboards and boogie boards and also fins on request for a small fee. Just tell us up-front if you would like to rent one, so we can add it to your booking and have it ready for you at departure.
Do we get a guidebook or even a map with the nicest hiking trails and beaches to explore on Kauai?
Certainly, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to check out & go camping on Kauai.
Perfect Places For Camping Outdoors On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ
Am I able to go to any beach to camp?
You can drive up to any beach, but you should only set up your camp in designated camping sites. This is the usual practice here on Kauai. We’ll supply you with a list of the ideal places to explore and to camp in. Please be aware that driving on the beaches is not permitted on Kauai.
Are we permitted to camp in the wild or are we only able to visit official camping grounds? If so, how much does it cost?
No, wild camping isn’t permitted on the island of Kauai. You should only go camping in specified areas with a valid camping permit. The fee is around $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county parks, though private campgrounds could be a bit more. The good thing about these campgrounds is that you will have total access to amenities, such as washrooms, showers and picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you opt to go camping on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to set up the ground tent.

Prior to our arrival in Kauai, do we need to get a Kauai camping permit?
It is a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping permits prior to your trip. For most private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits on the internet and also in person in the designated office.
If you choose to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you can obtain permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” web page.
Up-front, the fees are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Accepted payment methods with this application are money orders & cashier’s checks. Nevertheless, it isn’t absolutely necessary to reserve your camping permits prior to your planned arrival. You can also get them at the designated permit offices in Kauai, which is usually easier.
How long does it take to obtain the camping permits?
If you decide to go to a state or private campsite, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you decide to camp at a county campground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it can take quite a while to receive your permits. You might choose to receive your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the various permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will get them immediately.
