Kauai Camping Guide & Information About Camping Permits

Can I go to any beach to camp?

You can go to any beach, nevertheless, you should only put up your camp in official camping grounds. Here on Kauai, this is the standard procedure. We will supply you with a list of the best locations to visit and also to camp in. Please remember that driving a vehicle on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.

Are we allowed to camp in the wild or are we just able to go to designated camping grounds? If so, how much is the charge?

No, wild camping isn’t allowed in Kauai. You may only camp in specified areas with secured camping permits. The associated fee is around $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county campgrounds, though private campgrounds may be a little more. The good thing about these campsites is that you will have complete access to amenities, like restrooms, showers & picnic kitchen tables. Please be aware that if you opt to go camping on the county camp sites, you are only permitted to set up the ground tent.

What campgrounds do you suggest with the rooftop camping tent?

Prior to our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?

It is definitely a good idea to obtain your Kauai camping license before your trip. For the majority of private campsites, which we always recommend first, you may get your permits online and also in person in the designated office.

If you decide to stay at a county campground and set up a ground tent, you may request permits by visiting the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.

Non-residents have to pay 3 dollars per night up-front. Payment methods accepted with this application are cashier’s checks as well as money orders. However, you don’t necessarily have to book your camping permits before your planned arrival. You may also get them at the designated permit offices in Kauai, which is typically easier.

How much time does it take to get the camping permits?

Whether you choose to go to a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to go to a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite some time to get your permits. You may opt to obtain your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on Kauai; in-person you will receive them immediately.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
