FAQs

Is there an age requirement to rent from you?

We prefer to work with clients who are 25 years and older due to our insurance policy restrictions. Having said that, depending on your situation, whenever possible, we try to be flexible.

In case you are below 25 years, try checking with your insurance company to see if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then contact us.

Could you accommodate families with children?

Indeed! Please keep in mind that with our rooftop camping vehicles you will need to climb up one small ladder. If this is a problem, we also offer an additional camping tent with each package which you can put up on the ground. This may be much more comfortable for both you and also your young children.

What is the maximum capacity of your trucks?

We can fit three people at most, although if there are more within your group, we do offer an extra tent, as well. With this, we can easily fit as much as five individuals. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.

What about surfboards?

Yes, our company offers surfboards and boogie boards and fins on request for a small fee. Just tell us up-front if you want to rent one, so we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Can we receive a guidebook or even a map with the greatest areas to explore on Kauai?

Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best places to see and camp out on Kauai.

Kauai Camping Guide & Camping Permits FAQ

Am I able to visit any beach front to camp?

You may go to any beach, however, you should only set up your camp in official camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard practice. We’ll supply you with a list of the best places to check out and to go camping. Please remember that driving on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” permitted or can we only visit designated camping grounds? If so, what is the charge?

No, wild camping isn’t permitted in Kauai. You should only camp in official areas with a current camping permit. The charge is around $3 per night stay in the majority of Kauai county campgrounds, but private camp sites could be a little more. One particular advantage of these campgrounds is that you will have complete access to amenities, like showers, washrooms & picnic kitchen tables. Please keep in mind that if you choose to camp on the county camp sites, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

Can you recommend any Kauai camping sites where we can set up the roof top tent?

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?

It’s a good idea to get your Kauai camping permits prior to your trip. For most private campsites, which we always recommend first, you can secure your licenses on the internet and also on-the-spot in the respective office.

If you opt to camp at a county campsite and set up a ground tent, you may request permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.

Non-residents need to pay 3 dollars per night in advance. Payment methods accepted with this application are money orders and cashier’s checks. But it isn’t necessary to reserve your camping permits before your arrival. You can also get them at the different permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.

What is the processing time for getting camping permits?

Whether you decide to camp at a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to camp at a county camping ground, mail-in applications are easy to submit, however it might take quite a while to receive your permits. Permits can be obtained at the license offices on Kauai once you have arrived; in-person permits are given on-the-spot.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
