FAQs

What is the minimum age to rent from you?

We try to do business with clients who are actually twenty-five years and above due to our insurance policy restrictions. But, based upon your circumstances, whenever possible, we try to be accommodating.

In case you are below twenty-five, consider contacting your insurance company to see if you would be covered for rental vehicles, particularly for pick-up trucks, and then call us.

Are your rooftop tents family friendly?

Absolutely! Please note that using our rooftop camping vehicles you would need to climb one small ladder. If this is a concern, we also offer an extra tent with all of our packages which you may set up on the ground next to your camping vehicle. This could be much more comfortable for both you and also your children.

How many individuals can your camper vehicles fit?

The roof top tent camping trucks fit 3 individuals at most, though in case there are more within your group, we do provide an additional tent, too. With this, we can easily allow for about five individuals. Each of our trucks has 5 seatbelts.

Are you offering surfboards?

Yes, our company offers surfboards & boogie boards as well as fins upon request for a fee. Just let us know in advance if you want to rent one, so that we can add it to your reservation and have it ready for you at departure.

Do we get a travel guide or even a map with the best areas to explore on Kauai?

Sure, each vehicle has a Kauai guidebook which details maps and information on the best locations to see & go camping on Kauai.

Best Locations For Camping On Kauai & Camping Permits FAQ

Am I able to head to any beach to camp?

You can drive up to any beach, however, you should only put up your camp in official camping sites. Here on Kauai, this is the standard procedure. We will supply you with a list of the top locations to visit and to camp in. Please remember that driving on the beaches isn’t permitted on Kauai.

Is “wild camping” permitted or are we just able to visit official camping sites? If so, how much is the cost?

No, wild camping is not permitted on the island of Kauai. You should only camp in specific areas with a valid camping permit. The fee is around $3 per night in many Kauai county parks, though private campsites could be a little more. The good thing about these camping grounds is that you have complete access to facilities, like showers, washrooms & picnic kitchen tables. Please note that if you opt to camp on the county campgrounds, you are only allowed to set up the ground tent.

What campgrounds do you suggest with the rooftop camping tent?

  • Kōkeʻe State Park (need camping permit): Kokee Rd, Hwy 550, Kekaha, HI 96752
  • Sugi Grove Campground (need camping permit): Access from MohihiCamp 10 Road, starting 100 yards past Kōkeʻe State Park headquarters along Highway 550. Latitude 22.13 N, Longitude -159.622 W.

Before our arrival in Kauai, do we have to get a Kauai camping permit?

It is a better to get your Kauai camping permits prior to your trip. For most private campgrounds, which we always recommend first, you may get your licenses on the internet and also on-the-spot in the respective office.

If you decide to stay at a county campsite and use a ground tent, you may ask for permits by going to the “County of Kauai Camping Information” webpage.

In advance, the costs are $3 per night for non-residents of Hawaii. Payment methods accepted with this application are bank checks as well as money orders. But you don’t necessarily have to book your camping permits prior to your planned arrival. You could also obtain them at the different permit offices on the island, which is usually easier.

What is the processing time for getting camping permits?

No matter if you decide to stay at a state or private camping ground, both online and in person reservations are possible. Please note that if you choose to stay at a county campsite, mail-in applications are easy to submit, but it might take quite some time to get your permits. You might get your permits upon arrival to Kauai at the different permit offices on the island; in-person you will get them immediately.

TESTIMONIALS

Our Happy Clients!

Exploring Kauai with a rooftop camper is a fun and unique way to explore this beautiful island! Our family of 4 spent 12 fabulous days exploring and camping. The extra tent with the rooftop provided plenty of space for us…we had an amazing time! All communication with Jonathan and Jamie was smooth and easy. They are lovely people who genuinely want to provide a great experience.

Jamie and Jonathan were excellent hosts! Even though they were on vacation, Jonathan made all accommodations very easy and helped us with every step. Note: if you are under 25, make sure to let them know to make sure you are covered by insurance! Jonathan helped us work it out and we had a great time

Jamie and Jonathan are by far the very best experience with Airbnb we have ever had. Truly generous human beings with big hearts. They provided wonderful suggestions, amenities, and a wonderful 5 star experience. We will certainly rent again. For our first experience in Hawaii, they made sure it was second to none. If you’re coming to Hawaii to truly experience nature and looking for a ‘no nonsense’ and easy process to explore the island the way it was meant to be, you could not attain better hosts.

We had such an amazing trip with Jamie’s camper! Jamie and Jonathan were both so kind and took their time to explain to us the ins and out of our camper. Communication was easy and the beaches they recommend we visit were like paradise! Will rent again from them when we come back for sure!
